About Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden is a beautiful medieval market town set amongst the most picturesque countryside. It has a wealth of period properties and is an extremely sought-after town for good reason. It is an ideal location for commuters with Audley End mainline station on the doorstep offering direct routes to London Liverpool Street and Cambridge (just 15 miles away) and it is exceptionally popular with young families due to the excellent independent and state primary schools and the outstanding County High School. It is also easy to reach the highly rated private Perse School in Cambridge.

The town centre has a lovely mix of independent shops, bars and restaurants and hosts a vibrant twice weekly market. There are also regular events on the large common and in the Town Hall and the world class Saffron Hall plays host to a wide range of concerts throughout the year as does Audley End House, an historic Jacobean mansion with the most beautiful grounds to explore.

Recreationally, there are many sports clubs and facilities for young and old including football, tennis and cricket clubs and there is also a golf course. The Lord Butler Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, squash courts, tennis courts and a gym as well as offering an extensive range of fitness classes.

This is a rural part of north Essex and the town is surrounded by undulating countryside and stunning villages offering a good variety of property from picture postcard cottages, new houses on small developments and large country homes.
