Leading local estate agent, Mullucks Wells, has donated £1,000 to help the 1st Sawbridgeworth Scouts construct a purpose-built HQ.
The troop is trying to raise a total of £50,000 to build a new hut on a local site with planning permission already in place. The group has been running for more than 100 years in the town, with 160 members aged between 6 and 25. It is run by 25 volunteers, and it’s hoped that the new building will secure its future.
Mullucks Wells Director Daniel Galati, said: “The 1st Sawbridgeworth Scout Troop is a wonderful organisation, with strong community links, carrying out some amazing work with dozens of young people in the area. As the leading name in property in this region, it seems appropriate for Mullucks Wells to support the scouts in their plans for a new home!”
With only a few years left on the lease of the scout troop’s current meeting place, they are urgently raising money to fund the building work. They have already applied for a number of grants, but are aiming to raise the rest of the money themselves.
Daniel Galati added: “Building work is costly and complicated – so alongside the £1,000 donation, we also hope to help with some of the commercial work needed to construct and fit-out this new facility.”
Nick Jones, Group Scout Leader of 1st Sawbridgeworth Scouts, said: “This is a great boost to our fundraising campaign. We need to raise £50,000 to build the new hut for the community and it's great to be working with a local company like Mullucks Wells on the new accommodation which will give scouting in Sawbridgeworth a firm foundation for the future.”
