Leading local estate agents, Mullucks Wells, have raised almost £60,000 (£57,592.50) for charity, during a fundraising year to mark the company’s 21st Anniversary.
The year-long celebration has included a variety of fundraising activities as well as a donation of £100 for every property sold by Mullucks Wells since April 2011. The grand total of £57,592.50 exceeded all expectations and will be split between the charities chosen by the company’s three branches.
The Mullucks Wells office in Bishop’s Stortford chose to support the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity as its good cause for the year. The charity was founded in 1999 in memory of Essex broadcaster Helen Rollason and operates cancer support centres, clinical drug trials and a research laboratory. Administrator Linda Bowler said: “The fantastic donation from Mullucks Wells effectively fully funds our Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre at The Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth for six months. The total raised was greater than we expected and we intend to use the extra money to go towards training for therapists in manual lymph drainage, an effective treatment for some living with cancer.”
The Saffron Walden office chose to support the work of ResCU as its charity for the year. ResCU provides support and respite care to parents and families bringing up a young person or adult with learning disabilities. Jill Elms, ResCU’s Chair of Trustees said: “ResCU’s Maypole House Appeal is delighted to receive this very generous donation. We have been working hard to raise the profile of our project, Maypole House, amongst the local community and Mullucks Wells’ efforts have helped us in this quest. Maypole House will provide a dedicated respite centre which will give people with learning disabilities the opportunity to stay in a residential environment away from home for a short period of time. In addition, it will enable their immediate families and carers to have a much needed break from the demands of looking after a disabled person.”
West Essex Mind is the nominated charity for the Mullucks Wells team in Great Dunmow. From their office in Dunmow, the organisation supports local people affected by mental ill health including patients and those around them. Chief Officer Alison Wilson said: “The money from Mullucks Wells allows us to train two workers to deliver training in Mental Health First Aid for young people. The next step will be to use the funds to offer this excellent, nationally recognised course, free of charge to adults who work with young people in Great Dunmow and the surrounding areas.”
Highlights of the fundraising year included the Easter Egg Hunt at Little Easton Farm, the Mullucks Wells Summer Ball and an auction of promises.
Mullucks Wells Managing Director, William Wells said: “We are thrilled with the total raised, thanks to our staff, contacts, clients and the public who’ve supported these charities at events throughout the year. It’s great to see this money being put into real projects that will benefit our local community.
“This is not the end of this story; the new therapist at the Helen Rollason centre, the new care home in Thaxted and the counsellors in Great Dunmow are all the start of new services which will continue well into the future.
“It’s been a huge privilege for us to work in this community for 21 years and this is our chance to give something back.”
