About Thaxted
Thaxted is a small country town with a recorded history which dates back to before the Domesday Book. With its famous Guildhall, magnificent Church and restored Windmill, set against a backdrop of Medieval houses, it is the jewel in Essex's crown.
This thriving market town is full of considerable architectural interest and offers a great selection of restaurants, bars and traditional shops. The weekly market is held on a Friday with an interesting range of stalls selling fresh local produce and household items.
The town can also boast it’s own excellent primary school and active social calendar. Always in great demand as a place to live and visit, Thaxted is well located close to the larger market towns of Saffron Walden and Great Dunmow with their good sport and leisure facilities and excellent secondary schools. The town of Bishop’s Stortford, which offers a more extensive range of shops, is within a half hours drive.
