Mullucks Wells Swap Property for Poetry
Dubbed ‘the patron saint of poetry', the BBC Radio 4 ‘Home Truths' and ‘Poetry Please' presenter will be performing a selection of his work at the Friends' School on Friday 28th September at 7.30pm.
Mullucks Wells Director William Wells said; "We're delighted to sponsor such an iconic figure as Roger McGough at this year's festival. He's an amazing wordsmith, a terrific performer - and for many of our buyers and sellers, his poetry has almost become part of the woodwork."
Roger McGough OBE shot to overnight success in 1968 as part of the group The Scaffold, with the number one hit ‘Lily the Pink'. In a career spanning over 40 years, he was also responsible for much of the humorous dialogue in The Beatles' animated movie ‘Yellow Submarine', and made his name as one of the ‘Liverpool Poets' of the 1960's and 1970's. His poem ‘Let Me Die a Youngman's Death' was voted one of the nation's top ten poems in a poll conducted by the BBC in 1996.
William Wells added: "We're really looking forward to his appearance on Friday. Thought-provoking, moving, and at times downright hilarious, it promises to be an incredible evening!"
Tickets are available from the Saffron Walden Literary Festival Box Office at Hart House, Shire Hill or by calling 01799 523456.
