Mullucks Auction Bucks The Downward Trend
No ‘depressed’ market in the Dunmow saleroom
A Kraak charger with the VOC armorial to the central field (estimate £400 to £600) made £7,000 (inclusive of premium) at yesterday’s (27th March) Mullucks Wells selected Fine Art and Antiques Sale in the Dunmow Salerooms. "This rare and unusual 17th Century Chinese blue and white plate was the surprise of the day and was bought by the London trade," says Lloyd Rust, Saleroom Manager, Mullucks Wells. “Yesterday’s sale certainly bucked the trend of what is alleged to be a ‘depressed’ market. Over 90% of the lots sold and most made around the estimated price.”
The collection of seventy five pocket watches, probably one of the largest to be sold in the provinces for several years and part of a single private owner collection, made in total about £22,000 going to local collectors and the London trade.
A circa 1870 30 hour postman’s alarm clock signed by B & L Fehrenbach of Bishop’s Stortford (estimate £150 to £200) made £210; a circa 1890 anatomical flip chart from the USA which documents the evil effects of drugs, drink and smoking - the claim that the danger from smoking is a recent discovery appears incorrect (estimate £100 to £150) made £150.
