April 6th - Dday for new laws affecting landlords and investors
New laws which will inflict mandatory licensing on Houses in Multiple Occupation will come into force in less than two months with stringent penalties for breaching these laws. In addition to licensing, a new regime - the Housing Health and Safety Rating System - will come into force to monitor housing standards. In particular, these relate to hygiene and sanitation, although there will be 29 hazards that will be judged, with local authorities granted the power to enforce improvement notices.
