Another Successful Sale from the Mullucks Wells Auction Rooms
Auctioned; fascinating sarcophagus and
part of a local collection of some belongings of Sir James Thompson Ritchie
Items in the Mullucks Wells Fine Art and Antiques Sale in the Dunmow Salerooms yesterday Monday 21st November sold well making around £140,000 in total.
Of the individual items, a Graeco Roman period carved marble sarcophagus, probably a child’s sarcophagus, thought to be at least 2000 years old and bearing the inscription of ‘Fufidia Tyche’ - a Roman female name from around AD 100 - was sold to a provincial trade purchaser for £880.
