Of Tudor origin, the Grade II Listed Sewards End Farmhouse is of typical Essex construction with a heavy timber frame and part brick elevations. However, years of neglect had left it unsafe and in need of a partial rebuild. A request to demolish the property was rejected so the purchaser set about an extensive programme of restoration, with the involvement of English Heritage, an historic building architect and conservation officers at Uttlesford District Council.
Says David Emberson, Residential Sales Director of Mullucks Wells, "a person viewing the property in 2004 and again today would feel as if they had jumped 100 years in time. We see a lot of renovation projects but few with such dramatic results as this. Whilst the original features have been retained and the house still has the charm of a period property, it is finished to an exceptional specification and features all the latest sound and alarm systems and includes cat5E wiring in every room."
The property originally offered 7 bedrooms on the first floor but has been reconfigured to suit 21st Century living and now has 6 bedrooms with 3 en-suites over the first and second floor. Smaller changes to the ground floor were required but the addition of a garden room provides further living space. The farmhouse comes with approximately 3 acres but a further 20 acres and two outbuildings, both with planning consent to convert into substantial dwellings (one with 3 bedrooms and one with 4 bedrooms), are also available by separate negotiation.
Continues David, "the opportunity to buy a completely restored farmhouse with lovely rural views but only 3 miles from town is pretty unique and we are expecting this property to generate some considerable interest."
