Mullucks Wells Issue Guidance Over Choosing Lettings Agencies
The move follows recent newspaper reports about the closure of the Bishop's Stortford branch of Belvoir Lettings in Hockerill Street. At the time, some of the company's tenants were concerned about money which was owed to them, and yet had no recourse to an organisation which could help them sort their problems out.
Mullucks Wells Lettings Manager Joan Bull said: "Choosing a lettings agent is all about peace of mind and ARLA is the leading professional body for the private rented sector. Membership means that an agent will have professional indemnity insurance cover and is covered by a bonding scheme. Therefore both tenants and landlords know that their deposits and rents are completely secure and have somewhere to turn if any problems arise."
ARLA only accepts agents that can demonstrate they have a thorough knowledge of the lettings industry, and conduct their business according to the best management practice. Staff also attend a series of training courses and seminars to ensure that they are kept fully up to date with the latest regulations.
Joan Bull adds: "Mullucks Wells has been a member of ARLA for the past five years. We feel that we have a moral duty to protect our clients' best interests - and as they are with an ARLA registered agent, they can relax in the knowledge that their money is in safe hands."
