Follow a Great British Journey Through Saffron Walden
Mullucks Wells are delighted to support the ‘Sense of Place' Book Festival, which starts with Nicholas Crane's appearance at The Baptist Church on Thursday 28th February. Known for his highly popular TV series Coast and Map Man, Nicholas Crane's latest book Great British Journeys re-traces the steps of some of Britain's most influential expeditions.
One journey follows Daniel Defoe's trip in 1722 from London, through Essex and Suffolk to Norfolk. His return route through Cambridge and Saffron Walden recorded him seeing "the once largest and most magnificent pile in all this part of England - Audley End."
Nearly 300 years later, Nicholas Crane has re-visited this journey to witness the impact of these trips and how our landscape has since changed.
Mullucks Wells Director William Wells said: "We're looking forward to discovering more about this part of Saffron Walden's history. As a local company we know today's town very well - but this insight into the area in the 18th Century will be absolutely fascinating."
