About Bishop's Stortford and Surrounding Area
Bishop’s Stortford is an ancient market town, superbly situated in rural Hertfordshire on the border with the county of Essex. Bishop’s Stortford developed as a small but thriving market town through the Middle Ages, achieving a population of 2,300 by 1801. It was famed for its hostelries, of which a large number still exist. In the middle of the 19th Century, connection to the railway laid the foundation for Bishop’s Stortford’s present importance as both a market town and as a favoured commuter area for the City of London.

Despite the growth of the town, the retention of over 90 acres of parks and open spaces and the Green Belt that surrounds it has prevented excess over urbanisation.

As one would expect of a popular and bustling town, Bishop’s Stortford offers a good range of recreational facilities and amenities including an excellent golf club, swimming pool, cinema, bowling alley, theatre groups and restaurants. The centre features a wide selection of high street stores as well as the prestigious Clement Joscelyne for beautiful contemporary home furnishings and fabulous gift and household items. The area also boasts some of the best schools in the County.

Stansted Airport is only 4 miles from the town centre, providing an ever increasing number of European destinations, whilst access to the M11 and M25 have been improved considerably with the opening of the A120 and A10 trunk roads.

Our office, which handles property for sale or to let in Bishop's Stortford and the surrounding area, occupies a prime town centre position and covers an area to the south of the town as far as Harlow, with it’s extensive shopping facilities, as far west as the historic Ware which offers easy commuting, and to Buntingford in the North and Takeley to the East. Within this area lie many picturesque villages, including the much sought-after villages of Much Hadham and Braughing, with chocolate box thatched cottages dotted around the beautiful rolling countryside. In addition, the historic National Trust owned Hatfield Forest lies within the heart of this area and offers 1000 acres of pasture and woodland to explore.

If you are looking for houses for sale in or around the Bishop's Stortford area, please contact our office and we will ensure you are kept up to date with all suitable properties as they come onto the market.
